Road

What is a road? A road is a route over land which has been improved so that it is easier for people and vehicles to travel from one place to another.

Fast roads have to be dual carriageways to allow for overtaking.

Roads are highways connecting places. We use both road and street for highways, although most streets are short and in towns and cities, and many roads are names of highways that connect places. But there is no hard and fast rule.

The names of your local roads and streets makes a fascinating topic. Check out what they might tell you in the book below.
