Chapels are small places of worship.
Often chapels are open 'rooms' off the side of a nave in a large church or cathedral. Many are used for praying to a particular saint.
Chapels may also be places within a large non-religious building, such as a hospital, prison or university.
In the days before the Roman Catholic religion was replaced with the Church of England and Church of Scotland, many wealthy people had chapels built on to the sides of their grand houses or made as special rooms in their castles.
