Extruding and drawing
Extruding and drawing is an alternative process to rolling. In this method metals are forced through a die that has been cut to a particular shape. Wire and tubes, as well as complicated shapes, are commonly extruded.
Drawing is the opposite of extruding. Instead of pushing the metal, it is pulled through or
into a die. Most wire is drawn. Aluminium beverage cans are also drawn.

(Below) Large-diameter tubes cannot be produced by drawing. Instead, they are made by rollers, and the seam is then welded and flattened.

(Right) The base and sides of an aluminium beverage can are made by forming a disk of metal. The disk is pushed through a die. The top
is added afterwards in a rolled seam.
(Left) Handrails made of stainless steel are extruded through dies.
