density: the mass per unit volume (e.g. g/cc).
radiation: the exchange of energy with the surroundings through the transmission of waves or particles of energy. Radiation is a form of energy transfer that can happen through space; no intervening medium is required (as would be the case for conduction and convection).
X-rays: a form of very short wave radiation.
 Lead shot (small balls of lead) is widely used as weights in floats. In these examples the base of the float is weighted with lead shot so that the float stands upright in the liquid. In this way the float can be used as a hydrometer, a device for measuring the density of a liquid. The picture above shows the hydrometer in pure water; the one on the right shows it
in salt water.
Lead ammunition
Lead is a suitable material for ammunition because it is heavy, cheap and easily formed into a shape. In this application its toxic chemical qualities are of no concern, for obvious reasons.
Lead-only bullets are made of lead alloyed with antimony. The cold alloy is sometimes forced through a die to make the correct bullet shape, or hot metal is poured into a mould. Lead deforms as it moves through the air, so lead bullets are used only in .22 calibre ammunition and in target-shooting handguns.
Ammunition used in high-velocity rifles has a lead–antimony core but is jacketed in brass or copper so that it keeps its shape.
