Monsoon
Monsoon
Any seasonal wind that blows towards a continent in summer and away from it in winter. Used only in connection with places that have distinct wet and dry seasons.
Countries that experience monsoons are all within, or close to, the tropics. The monsoon
is particularly characteristic of India, where its arrival can usually be predicted within a few days, ending a period of intense heat, and bringing welcome cooler air and heavy rains. About half of
the world’s population depends
on the rains brought during the monsoon for the successful growth of their crops.
Monsoon – Towering clouds herald the outbreak of the monsoon over Bombay, India.
Monsoon – The characteristic rainfall chart
for a monsoon climate shows a sudden start to 40 100
the rainy season. Temperatures dip slightly at the same time because of the high cloud amounts.
