Weir

What ia a weir? A weir is a small barrier across a river intended to control the flow of water. Usually found accompanied by a lock.

A weir and lock.

A weir is a barrier that can be raised or lowered to keep the water level deep enough for boats to navigate a channel. A large weir is called a barrage. In the picture above, the weir is on the right and the lock on the left. Water is foaming as it spills over the weir. This helps to aerate the river water and keep it clean.
