Strike

What is a strike? A stike is when people refuse to continue to work.

People on strike.

Strikes are when an organised group of workers decide to refuse to work. Very often the group is organised by a union, but not always.

People can go on strike if they think it is a last resort to save their jobs. They may feel they are not getting paid enough, or they may feel their working conditions are too bad.

In all of these cases, when people go on strike they no longer get paid by the company they work for. So a strike causes hardship to the strikers as well as the company. If the company provides services, such as a hospital, then customers may also suffer.

It does no one any good to have strikes unless they are really necessary, and there is no point going on strike if you cannot win better terms. So strikes are a last resort.
