An owl is adapted for feeding on small mammals at night. They have large eyes to see in the dark. They also have special feathers that help them to fly almost silently and so catch their prey by surprise. It has talons or claws on its feet for catching its prey while flying.
Owls swallow their food whole. In their digestive system the fur and bones of the prey are wrapped together into a cigar-shaped pellet and the owl regurgitates it. An owl often has a regular place where it roosts. If you find an owl roost you may find a pile of pellets on the ground with tiny skulls and leg bones sticking out of them.
