Muslim

What is a Muslim? A Muslim is a believer of Islam.

Mecca.

"Muslim" is an Arabic word meaning "one who submits (to God)". A Muslim is a follower of the religion of Islam, a 'Religion of the Book', based on the Qur'an.

Muslims consider the Qur'an to be the absolute word of God as revealed to the prophet Mohammed. They also follow the teachings and practices of Mohammed as recorded in traditional accounts called hadith.

Most Muslims accept as a Muslim anyone who has publicly pronounced the Shahadah (declaration of faith) which says "There is no god but Allah, Mohammed is the messenger of Allah."

Muslims believe that God (Arabic: Allah) is eternal and incomparable; that Islam is the complete version of a faith that has been revealed through many prophets including Abraham, Moses, Isaiah and Jesus and finally Mohammed, and that the Qur'an is the final unaltered revelation from Allah.

The religious practices of Muslims are centred around the Five Pillars of Islam, which include daily prayers (salat), fasting during Ramadan (sawm), almsgiving (zakat), and the pilgrimage to Mecca (hajj) at least once in a lifetime.
