Mammoth

What is a mammoth? A mammoth is a large elephant-like creature with long tusks that became extinct just after the Ice Age due to hunting by people.

Mammoth.

A mammoth had long, curved tusks and a covering of long hair. They lived from around 5 million years ago to about 4,500 years ago in Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America. They were related to modern elephants.

Mammoths reached heights in the region of 4m at the shoulder and weighed 8tonnes. They ate a wide range of plants, including grasses, shrubs and trees, just as elephants do.

Some people think mammoths died out for climatic reasons, while others think it was due to overhunting by humans.
