Gridiron

What is a gridiron? A gridiron is a pattern of city streets which are all made at right angles to one another.

This is a pattern of streets that all run at right angles to one another. It is a common way of planning in new cities. It has been in use from Roman times, but is most widely used in places that have been developed recently, such as North America.

Gridiron streets do not meet at any one central place in the way that roads in older towns and cities do, so there is often no obvious centre.
