Galilee

What was Galilee? Galilee was the main town on the banks of the Sea of Galilee.

Galilee as it looked in the middle of the 19th century.

Galilee is an important historic town on the shores of what, in the New Testament, is called the Sea of Galilee. This lake is part of the course of the River Jordan and is now in Israel.

For Christians Galilee is important because of its historic connection with the life of Jesus. It was on the shores of the Lake of Galilee, for example, that Jesus told some of His disciples to follow him, it is where He performed the miracle of walking on water and where He caused fishermen's nets to become full. There are many other references.
