Food history is all about finding out what people ate in the past and why. It is also about how eating habits have changed.
For example, in the early Stone Age people had not discovered fire and so they had to eat their food raw. They had not learned to grind corn, so they crunched their way through grains of cereals, soil and all. This wore their teeth down.
In the past, when people did not have fridges and freezers, they also had to preserve their food in all kinds of other ways, such as drying it, smoking it or preserving it in bars and cans.
At certain times in history, food has been difficult to come by. That is especially true in times of war. The video below gives an example of food in the Second World War. There are many more videos on this subject under History>>Second World War.
