Focus (light)

What does focus mean? Focus means to bring light rays together at a point.

A hand lens is often used to bring something in to focus.

Objects can be sharp, or they can look blurred. When they look sharp they are said to be 'in focus'.

The best thing in the world for focusing is the eye. The eye can be adjusted by the brain to change its shape and keep things in focus. We use shaped pieces of glass to bring things into focus. A camera uses a lens for that purpose.

When the eye is not able to change shape to get things into focus, we use spectacles. These are shaped pieces of glass designed to match the needs of our eyes.
