Fjord

What is a fjord? A fjord is a deep, narrow valley that has been flooded by the sea. A Norwegian word.

Fjords are valleys that have been cut by glaciers in mountain regions during the Ice Age, then flooded by the sea.

Most fjords have very deep water and so have been good for harbours and ports. Today they offer a way for cruise ships to show passengers some spectacular mountain scenery.
