The Festival of Britain was a festival put on by the government a few years after the Second World War. Its purpose was to make people feel good after many years of war and rationing. It was also to show that Britain was still a powerhouse of invention and that the country was recovering again from the war.
Some of the most famous features were the long steel tower called the Skylon. The building that has survived from the days of this festival is Festival Hall, one of the main concert halls of the country. It is more of less opposite the Houses of Parliament in London. It belongs to the area now called the 'South Bank'.
