Elastic

What is elastic? Elastic is a flexible material that can be stretched, but will go back to its original shape when released.

How an elastic band works.
Video: Things that are elastic.

Elastic materials include rubber, some plastics and some steels. They are used to make springs, shock absorbers (such as around dodgem cars in a fairground) and elastic bands.

Some materials that you might not expect are also elastic. A cork is elastic because it needs to try to expand when it is forced into a bottle, otherwise it would fall out.
