Current

What is a current? A current is the flow of electricity through a wire.

Electricity pylons.

When you close or turn on a switch in a circuit a current of electricity flows. It moves along wires and through all the components in the circuit. Some of the electrical energy in the current may be changed to other forms of energy such as light, heat or sound.

See also the entry for voltage, which is the push that causes a current to flow.
