Canopic Jar

What is a canopic jar? A canopic jar is a jar in which the vital organs of a dead person were kept in Ancient Egyptian times.

The Ancient Egyptians mummified important dead people, which involved taking out their internal organs and preserving the skin and bones in salt and oils.

The Ancient Egyptians believed that it was important to keep some organs after the body died. These were put in jars called canopic jars.
