A blizzard is a snowstorm with very high winds.

When winds blow strongly, the light snowflakes are easily carried with it. As a result snow can be driven against the side of a house, where it will build up.

The main result of blizzards is to cause snowdrifts. People and animals as well as cars can get buried in snowdrifts, which is what makes blizzards so dangerous.
