Big Bang

What is the Big Bang? The Big Bang is the idea that scientists have about the moment, over 13 billion years ago, when the Universe as we know it exploded from a very small space.

The Big Bang that may have started the Universe.

The Big Bang is a theory, which means that it is the best guess that scientists can make using the facts as we know them today. It suggests that, some 14 billion years ago, our Universe as we know it, began as an incredibly dense particle, and then started expanding, explosively at first, and then more or less constantly. That is why all other parts of the Universe we know are seen to be travelling away from us.
