Clement Attlee

Who was Clement Attlee? Clement Attlee was the British Prime Minister from 1945 to 1951 during the time when major reforms, such as the National Health Service and nationalisation of coal, steel and rail happened.


Clement Attlee was a British Prime Minister. He was born in 1883 in London and a member of the Labour Party.

He is most notable for creating the National Health Service (NHS) which provides free healthcare on the basis on citizenship and need rather than wealth. He also passed laws which helped improve childcare and gave the public access to National Parks and areas of beauty.
