Amber

What is amber? Amber is a yellow material which you can see through. It is a fossil tree sap made from trees that lived millions of years ago.

Amber.

Amber was made by trees called conifers. The trees that lived millions of years ago made a liquid sap called resin that sometimes flowed out of their branches and trunks when they were damaged. Over time the liquid set and turned hard and was buried and made part of a rock.

Amber is an attractive substance and is used to make jewellery. The ancient Greeks found that when amber was rubbed pieces of dust and straw stuck to it. This power to make things stick to it is a form of electricity called static electricity.
