Aluminium

What is aluminium? Aluminium is an element. It is a shiny, lightweight metal.

Aluminium is not found naturally like gold. It is mixed with other chemicals in rock. One type of soft rock called bauxite contains large amounts of aluminium and it is the source of most of the world's aluminium.

The aluminium is separated from the other chemicals in the rock and is used to make many things we use. It is not poisonous so it can be used to wrap up food or to make drink cans. It conducts electricity well and is used in overhead power cables. It is a strong material but light in weight and is used to make aircraft.

The video below gives you an example of where the bendy property of aluminium is useful.
