Alexander the Great was the last Ancient Greek leader. He came to power when his father died. His father had been the first king to unify the whole of Greece. Before then it has been a collection of warring cities.
With Greece unified, Alexander set about beating the old Greek enemy Persia. He succeeded in this, then moved on east to India. He also invaded North Africa, forming a huge empire.
However, the empire required a leader like Alexander to control it, and when he died at the age of 33, there was no one to take over and the empire began to fall apart.
Many cities were named after him, such as Alexandria in Egypt.
