Now the star will explode. The core will get hot
enough to fuse the helium into carbon. About a third of the Sun will be thrown out into space. This will create a planetary nebula, and a giant solar wind will develop around the Sun.
The Sun will get hotter for a while, then collapse down to be a white dwarf, getting smaller, dimmer, and cooler. It will only be about half of the mass of the present Sun, but it will be much denser. Cooling and dimming, the Sun will form into a black dwarf with no light of its own left. It will be on its own in space, the planets having
