(Above) Manufacturing laminated glass windshields.
(Below) A crack in laminated glass. The crack comes from a stone hitting the windshield. Notice that the crack is only on the outer layer and that the whole windshield has not shattered. This is an important safety factor for drivers.
(Right) During the
manufacture of a three-
layered windshield, an opaque plastic sheet is put between two sheets of perfectly matching transparent glass. The three sheets are heated under pressure. The plastic turns transparent and sticks to the glass to form the reinforced windshield.
