(Above) Ceramic tiles with whiteware toilet bowl and tank. The earthenware has been glazed to make it watertight and also for sanitary purposes. Other similar white earthenware items include sinks. Note that baths are often not ceramic but metal with a glass coating (called vitreous enamel or porcelain enamel).
