This black copper oxide is cupric oxide (CuO).
 Some oxides of copper and iron.
oxide: a compound that includes oxygen and one other element.
Most iron ore contains an intermediate amount of oxygen (Fe3O4) and is black.
This dark red iron oxide contains the most oxygen of any iron oxide.
It is called ferric oxide (Fe2O3).
