Magnesium
Essential for plant and animal growth
Makes up over 0.13% of sea water
Forms the minerals that make dolomite rocks
Found most commonly in sea water and as magnesium carbonate in dolomite rock
 Strontium, like calcium and magnesium, is an element in group 2 of the Periodic Table (see page 46). When it or its compounds are heated, they produce a characteristic crimson colour.
A soft, silver–white metal, chemical symbol Mg
Atomic number 12, atomic weight about 24
Eighth most plentiful element at the surface of the Earth
Magnesium salts dissolve in fresh water to make hard water
Is part of the chlorophyll of all green plants
