Unununium (Uuu)
Element 111. It is one of the most recently discovered elements and very little is so far known about it. Only a few atoms of element 111 have ever been made. That involved the nuclear fusion of an isotope of bismuth with one of nickel using a heavy ion accelerator.
Discovery
Unununium was discovered on the
8 December 1994, at Darmstadt in Germany by S. Hofmann,V. Ninov,
F. P. Hessberger, P. Armbruster, H. Folger, G. Münzenberg and others.
Unununium is a temporary name and will be changed when international agreement has been reached.
Technology
So little of it has been produced that it has no uses.
Geology
It does not occur naturally in the environment.
Biology
It does not occur in living things.
