Ununquadium (Uuq)
Element 114. It is one of the most recently discovered elements and very little is so far known about
it. Only a few atoms of element
114 have ever been made. These atoms were produced by nuclear fusion of a calcium atom with a plutonium atom. It is also produced as part of the natural decay sequence of ununoctium. It lasts for just a fraction of a second.
Discovery
It was discovered by workers at the Nuclear Institute at Dubna, Russia, in December 1998.
Ununquadium is a temporary name and will be changed when international agreement has been reached.
Technology
So little of it has been produced that it has no uses.
Geology
It does not occur naturally in the environment.
Biology
It does not occur in living things.
