asthenosphere The region below the lithosphere, and therefore part of the upper mantle, in which some material may be molten.
gravity The force of attraction between bodies.
lithosphere The upper part of the Earth, corresponding generally to the crust and believed to be about 80 km thick.
mantle The region of a planet between the core and the crust.
meteorite A meteor that reaches the Earth’s surface.
plate A very large unbroken part of the crust of a planet. Also called tectonic plate.
volcano A mound or mountain that is formed from ash or lava.
