Both nylon 6 and nylon 6,6 have melting points similar to PET. Also, since the nylon chains are held together with hydrogen bonding, nylons can take up water. This allows them to be dyed from solutions in water, unlike their polyester counterparts.
The aramids are another form of polyamide, in this case containing rings of atoms as part of their chain. That gives them exceptionally great strength and a high melting point. However, they are expensive to make. Kevlar® is typical of a special high-strength variety of nylon.
