(Left) This is a fabric – a mesh of interwoven fibres in sheet form.
(Above and below) The most common way of converting yarn into fabric is weaving. Normally the yarn is interwoven on a loom using a warp (that runs lengthwise) and a weft (running widthwise). Weaving by this method goes
back as far as 6,000 years ago.
(Above and below) Knitting is another method for making fabrics and works by interlocking loops of yarn.
It is a highly regarded craft but is done industrially using knitting machines.
