990°C. The feldspar would all be molten at 1,140°C. But only when the temperature reaches 1,200°C does real glass form. And because the glassy particles are so sticky (viscous), the piece does not tend to warp out of shape. Furthermore, variations in the exact composition of the raw material are also not critical. What these variations do is create slightly different grades of material. That is, the composition and temperature are not as critical here as they are in many other kinds of chemistry. That is what makes the production of whitewares so easy, and why they were some of the first manufactured products.
Ceramics for building
The ceramics used for building are bricks and roofing tiles, paving slabs, and decorative garden stone. They make up about half of all the ceramic wares made worldwide.
(Above and below) Bricks are the basis of much housing. Bricks are often used to face a building even if its structure is made of wood.
