Calcium sinter
Geysers are dramatic forms of hot springs, sending out gushes of hot, mineral-rich water, sometimes containing calcite, on other occasions, silica-rich minerals. As the wind catches the spray of these natural fountains, it may wash over debris and coat
it with hardened calcite, forming a sinter. In this way pieces of twig or other small objects can be fossilised.
calcite: the crystalline form of calcium carbonate.
precipitate: tiny solid particles formed as a result of a chemical reaction between two liquids or gases.
stable: able to exist without changing into another substance.
