Ununbium (Uub)
Element 112. It is one of the most recently discovered elements and very little is so far known about it. Only
a few atoms of element 112 have
ever been made. That was done by fusing a zinc atom with a lead atom
by accelerating the zinc atom to high energies in a heavy ion accelerator. Ununbium can also be obtained as part of the decay sequence of ununoctium.
Atoms of this element have a life of less than a millisecond.
Discovery
Element 112 was discovered in 1996 by
S. Hofmann,V. Ninov, F. P. Hessberger,
P. Armbruster, H. Folger, G. Münzenberg and others at Darmstadt, Germany. Ununbium is a temporary name and will be changed when international agreement has been reached.
Technology
So little of it has been produced that it has no uses.
Geology
It does not occur naturally in the environment.
Biology
It does not occur in living things.
